Jackie Isamay on 2020-10-22 (5 stars): I use cream of wheat, because that’s what my German Mother always used. Something else she made, and now I make it, too, is griessbrei soup! It’s an onion soup that is super simple. Chop up an onion and saute’ until beginning to carmelize in oil (I use olive oil), add beef stock and maybe a spoon of boullion,. Stir well, and add 1/2 a cup or so of cream of wheat. Whisk briskly while bringing to a boil. Add more or less, depending on how thick you want your soup. If it gets too thick, especially after sitting over night in the fridge, just add some water when you put it in your mug or bowl.
