The magic of Annapoorna Hotel When I am in Coimbatore, I always visit the city's legendary Annapoorna Hotel, without fail. Because I think Annapoorna is the epitome of great South Indian food ! Last week, my wife and I were in Coimbatore for a few days, and we ate quite greedily at three different branches of Annapoorna. Our choices : Rava onion dosa, panniyaram and, not to forget, steaming hot filter coffee ! Why has the Annapoorna brand flourished so well over 50+ long years? Here is why, in my view : 1. Points of parity : Quality and taste of food are essential factors (points of parity) why we choose a hotel. Annapoorna excels on both, and has been very consistent too. It charges a premium price for its high quality (the rava onion dosa I ate there was priced at Rs. 115 !), but I think there are so many of us who are willing to pay this reasonable premium for excellent food. 2. Points of difference : Annapoorna has so many unique selling points (points of difference). Their signature sambar which uses a secret recipe tastes is so delicious and is to die for. Their metre-long family dosa is arguably the longest dosa served everyday in any hotel, and a big draw. Their filter coffee, made of pure 100% dark roasted arabica beans, is not just outstanding, it is heavenly. 3. Points of love : Coimbatore takes great pride in Annapoorna, which stands for amongst the best their city offers. For visitors to the city, Annapoorna is a must-visit food destination and experience. For people like me who have lived in Coimbatore in the past (I went to school there), the hotel offers a huge dose of fond nostalgia. All these and more translate to a lot of love for the brand. Look forward to your kind views - on Annapoorna, on your own favourite restaurant, on South Indian food, or anything related ! Even a few words is fine.
