Preheat a broiler to high and place an oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source. Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil. If you are using skinless fillets, grease the baking sheet with a little olive oil or nonstick cooking spray.
Place salmon on the prepared baking sheet, skin-side down and evenly spaced out. Drizzle salmon with olive oil, then a sprinkling of salt. Finish with an even dusting of your favorite salmon rub or freshly ground black pepper.
Transfer baking sheet under the broiler, and cook until the salmon starts to develop a little color on top and flakes easily when pierced with a knife (about 9 minutes).*
