2 tablespoons BBQ sauce

Steps
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Heat a large (oven safe, if you don’t want to transfer) skillet over medium-low heat and add the bacon. Cook until it’s brown and crisp and most of the fat is rendered.
Stit in the onion, pepper and garlic. Cook, stirring often, until everything softens, about 5 minutes. Stir in the paprika, chili powder, salt and pepper. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes. Stir in the vinegar, BBQ sauce, ketchup, mustard and brown sugar until combined.
Stir in the baked beans directly from the can. Bring the mixture to a boil, then turn off the heat. I suggest tasting the beans here and adding more salt, pepper or heat if desired. If you'd like, you can lay a few strips of bacon on top of the beans here too!
Place the skillet (or transfer to an oven-safe dish) in the oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until bubbly and syrup. Remove and let cool slightly before serving.
You can make these ahead of time - cook them in the skillet then let cook to room temperature and cover, placing in the fridge. Bake the next day (or whenever you’re ready!).
These also freeze well!

Bailey on 2026-09-16 (5 stars): I’ve made these and they are delicious! Is there a way to do it as a crockpot version? ☺️
Gregory on 2026-09-12 (5 stars): Best baked beans I have ever had. I have prepared this recipe for several events and they’re always a hit.
Paula Smith on 2026-09-07 (3 stars): I followed your bourbon, baked bean recipe to the T. For the bourbon, I used Makers Mark. I served it to some friends and all of us agree one cup of makers mark bourbon was way too much. Four days later my husband and I had some of the leftovers and I could still smell the bourbon 2 feet away. It’s very strong smelling and over powers the flavor! The beans themselves were delicious but for anyone that wants to make this recipe, I would suggest a half a cup of bourbon or a fourth of a cup. Start out slow and add to your liking because one cup will ruin all your hard work.
Liz on 2026-08-29 (5 stars): This is my third time making this recipe! Anybody who gives this baked beans recipes less than 5 stars is crazy. Such a good way to make canned baked beans taste amazing. LOVE LOVE LOVE
Natasha on 2026-08-17 (4 stars): I loved the texture and mostly the flavor of these, but I think they would have been better without the chipotle powder and smoked paprika. I am going to try making it without next time. Thank you for the recipe.
Lisa on 2026-08-08 (5 stars): I've been using this recipe now for a few years, it's a fantastic recipe and has spoiled us, not many compare! It is a forgiving recipe too. Definitely don't skip the bacon if you can, though! it's the cherry on top (and I always use extra, some in the beans, and on top of the beans so the fat renders on top while it bakes)
Thanks for the great recipe! It's leagues better than your credited inspiration recipe!
DeAnn on 2026-07-22 (5 stars): Best baked beans ever! We love the tang and all the little extras to give it that extra flavor.
George on 2026-07-11 (5 stars): I have been using this recipe for about three years now for all my pot lucks and picnics, even a family reunion. It is, by far, the talk of the meals. Everybody loves my beans. Only negative comments are from my younger brother and he says it is too juciy. He likes them dry. (What does he know?)
I even add an extra can of either pinto or red beans. The additional beans do not affect the flavor. To me, it’s a five star recipe.

Kylie on 2026-06-16 (5 stars): Very good! This will be my go-to baked bean recipe. I served them over baked potatoes, with a side of sautéed zucchini and yellow squash. Cozy and summery at the same time!
Rupertd on 2026-05-29 (1 stars): Baked Beans more like not very good Beans. Am I right people. My name is Rupert and I was not a fan of these Baked Beans as they gave me a severe case of the windy poops. I have blown many a hole in my trousers and even my office chair. Dont let me get started on the smell as I feel I have now become a social porier and no one will even talk to me. I am so lonely. I have befriend a rather elderly cat though who has only got 3 legs as my new companion as they have not got a nose due to a rare facial parasite. I dont know there name but they do like me for some reason. Yesterday I went to my local wishing well and threw all my loose change in it to see what would happen but all that happened was I accidently threw my phone in. I am very saddened by this but life goes on. Any way I highly recommend this album. great easy listening. 7/10
linda k boyle on 2026-05-25 (5 stars): Made for 2026 Mem Weekend gathering - all 7 of us foodies flipping loved them, so sadly no leftovers. I was nominated to make them again for July 4th. I used a 2 quart baking dish set on a cookie sheet, regular & smoked hot paprika, Bush's Grillin' Beans (Steakhouse Flavor), and red bell peppers.
A total crowd pleaser and looked just like the picture!
