Ciarelys on 2024-01-06 (4 stars): I’m not sure why but my blender turned the milk into foam and it wasn’t the consistency I liked. I have a ninja blender and the med and high settings whip up a lot of things so I had to remake it but I quartered the liquid and used 1/4 cup oats and blended the water and oats first then when blended well I blitzed in the milk very quickly so it wouldn’t foam up. I used maple syrup and the spices and it was DELIGHTFUL.
Jennifer on 2023-07-20 (5 stars): Can you store it and reheat for the next day or only drink made fresh?
Maggie Maldonado on 2022-04-05 (5 stars): This recipe is so warm, healthy, flavorful, and filling. I would visit a friend in Ponce, Puerto Rico and she has a lovely neighbor. She would bring her bread and horchata de avena (as they called it). It's made with oats, sugar, salt, cinnamon, clove, vanilla, ginger, orange peels, cooked in milk and a bit of coconut cream. My friend would sometimes pour a little into her coffee.
Diana on 2022-01-23 (5 stars): Thank you. I loved your recipe it’s very similar to my mom's. I wonder about adding a full cup of oats vs. 1/2 what do you think?
Lottie on 2021-09-25 (5 stars): My neighbor from DR she would add orange and lime peel. My close friend from Salvador makes it with molasses and pineapple. My friend from Mexico who's a chef calls it alote and adds pumpkin or strawberries and vanilla. I dated a P.Rican on Nochebuena they had a drink made from oats, coconut milk, spices and ginger for kids. Lastly my Jamaican friend who would bring a big batch for everyone at work. Made with oats, peanut butter, banana and spices. All such an amazing drink.
