2 1/2 cups (375g) flour
1 1/4 cups (225g) sugar
1 cup (226g) softened butter
1 large (50g) egg
2 tsp (10mL) vanilla extract
1 tsp (6g) baking soda
1/2 tsp (2.5g) salt

Preheat oven to 350F (180C.)
Combine flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl.
In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in egg and vanilla until batter comes together and is fluffy. Mix in flour mixture on low speed until just combined.
Roll 1" (2.5cm) of cookie dough into a ball. Place 1 - 2 tablespoons of decorations in a baggie or small bowl. Roll dough in decorations or shake in the baggie. Place each covered dough ball on a cookie sheet 2" (5cm) apart. Press down with the back of a glass, a spatula or your finger tips until they are about 1/4" (6mm) thick.
Bake 10 - 14 minutes or until edges are golden brown. Cool on baking sheet for 2 minutes; remove to wire rack to finish cooling.
